Customer Service / Marketing Specialist

Duties and Responsibilities

A full-time position with International Press of Boston, an academic publisher of highly regarded scholarly journals and books, in Somerville not far from Harvard University. Regular duties will include:

Customer Service

  • Process orders for journal subscriptions—via subscription agencies and directly from customers.
  • Process orders for books—from private buyers and from our distributors and retailers.
  • Work with our subscription agencies, distributors, and retailers—to fulfill their orders and to ensure they have all necessary information about publications, prices, etc.
  • Assist customers as needed—answering questions, resolving order problems, etc.
  • Manage records—orders and invoices, payments customer data, etc.
  • Send payments to vendors.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly sales reports.

Marketing

  • Gain knowledge of and insight into our publications, our business, and the world of scholarly publishing in general.
  • Introduce new publications and increase sales of existing publications.
  • Become aware of our potential advertising and promotional forums.
  • Suggest specific advertising or promotional opportunities
  • Assist in implementing advertisements and promotional activities.
  • Help to develop and implement co-ordinated marketing plans.

Required Experience

We are looking for someone who will bring a thoughtful, methodical, and highly organized working style, and an attentiveness to detail.

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is required.
  • Strong written and spoken English-language skills are required.
  • Fluency in other languages is desirable: particularly Mandarin Chinese, Japanese, and Korean.
  • General skill in dealing with Microsoft Windows is desirable.
  • Experience with QuickBooks software and Microsoft Excel is desirable.
